Gundam 00 Overview

Well nao that I've completed Season 2 I'm ready for my general overview of that particular Gundam series. First of all I'd like to ask those of you who this applies to not compare me to a certain Juan Castro. I am NOT a total obsessed Gundam Fanboy but i do know my fair share about the Gundam franchise. The Gundam franchise is a staple anime, in other words a classic, or standard, anyone who loves anime has most likely seen at least 1 Gundam series in their life time and i happened to have a severe lack of anime in my life, and realizing this i looked to Gundam for a good watch(kinda like a good read but with TV or a computer) and i heard good things about Gundam 00 and it did not disappoint.

Nao on to the subject at hand

First of all I'd like to address the story, it's a pretty predictable story prompt as far as Gundam series go. An organization of some sort with the intent to change the world (which is most likely at war or on the verge of war) utilize advanced Mobile Suits(in other words giant robots) known as Gundams to reach their goals. Like other Gundam series there's a lot of stuff going on to keep you interested; as far as characters go there's a lot of character development that goes on as the protagonists use their Gundams to fight the world, and all the while they go through their own personal struggle, whether it's some sort of grudge/rivalry, or some kind of self realization about themselves and their role in the world. On top of that they also find some way to work political squabbles into the mix(just like a Gundam series.) So overall it's got a lot to offer, though the story has been done before, Gundam 00 pulls it off quite well, and in it's own unique way. The main characters are all unique with their own quirks and their own personal struggle, as you watch you'll actually end up caring about the respective troubles the protagonists have. At first i really didn't like Tieria Arde but after watching him grow into a more "human" character he became another one of my liked characters, Gundam 00 happened to be the first Gundam series that didn't have a main protagonist that i didn't detest in some way.

Nao on to the visuals

The Gundam designs are some of the most interesting i've seen in awhile. I know that Gundam 00 is still 2nd to Gundam SEED in popular selling Gundam models but these are the best and most interesting Gundams I've seen without them being too over-the-top ridiculous. *Cough*strike freedom*cough* ahem* But yes in the world of Gundam these designs are a bit more believable. The fight scenes are quite impressive if i do say so myself. The fights are actually somewhat intricate without being flooding the screen with unnecessary lights and colors. For example in Gundam SEED you would get a lot fights akin to pokemon stadium; where there would be a clip of one guy attacking(often recycled a lot) and then a clip of the other guy reacting to the attack(with the 2 characters rarely being on screen at the same time.) Or they would have a scene of the 2 Gundams simply flying around eachother, with a gun and shield firing blasts at eachother...in sort of a pattern...and no damage to either party. There are rarely recycled shots in Gundam 00 so you never see too much of the same thing, but you will see a lot of clutch moments where you'll end up biting your nails hoping for X character to come out on top.

The Story progresses quite well, and you'll easily end up getting sucked into the world of Gundam 00. At the start you'll be introduced to the characters and their quirks and as it progresses you'll learn of a personal struggle they have, and each one is interesting in it's own way so you'll barely get the feeling of "omg i don't care about this, go back to X event or character." The ride from season 1 to season 2 was quite interesting, tho i feel like season 1 ended on more of an exclamation point if you know what i mean. It had a much bigger bang at the end. However it didn't quite give you closure and season 1 had a few characters where you might wonder "why the fck are they even here" which was my only real pet peeve at the time, Luckily season 2 brings things full circle, and in more ways than one. So it's quite a satisfying ride, and i was a bit sad to see it come to an end.

Overall i feel that Gundam 00 is the best of the Gundam AU so far (*Note* for those of you who don't know Gundam is usually divided into 2 time lines, one being the original story and everything relevent to the very first season of Gundam, and the other being the Alternate Universe timeline. Most Gundam series' you've watched on TV prolly belongs to AU such as; Gundam Wing, G gundam, Gundam Seed and nao Gundam 00) Though the story seems a bit recycled in the Gundam Universes it pulls it off, quite well might i add. With a world that quickly engulfs you in it's troubles, characters who's own personal stories you'll end caring about, and superior but not too flashy fight scenes, Gundam 00 is definitely worth the watch. If you feel the need to watch a good anime and have no clue what to watch(like i was at the time) i suggest this.

So Nao I'm waiting on the Gundam 00 Movie in the mean time watch Gundam 00 if you havn't already and join me in the wait, hah. So this is the end until my next blog. Click the the follow button if you'd like to read more of my ramblings. So Until my next one

Gundam 00 english dubbing

Well I just finished Season 1 of Gundam 00 and i compared the last episode English dubbing and Japanese dub and to be honest i found the English dub very satisfying, even better than the Japanese dub. It's probably mostly due to Setsuna's Voice actor Brad Swaile(who also Voiced Lite in Death Note.) When i heard it was him voicing Gundam 00's main character i was really curious about it and he did not disappoint. His ending speech in season 1 of Gundam 00 was beyond good and when i watched the Japanese dub i was just disappointed. Brad Swaile is nao on my list of top anime voice actors up there with Johnny Yong Bosch(mostly known as the 2nd black ranger in Power Rangers) he was the voice actor for Ichigo(bleach), Lelouch(Code Geass), Nero(Devil May Cry 4), and Vash(Trigun). Yes i have a list of well known voice actors.

Most anime junkies for one reason or another are really anal about the Japanese Dub vs. English dub and to be honest i prefer English dub Majority of the time (just so i dont have to end up rewinding just to know what they said(because i like to eat when i watch anime and its a little bit harder to concentrate when I'm maneuvering from a bag of chips to the bowl of dip.) The only time I would rather die than watch English dub would be when concerning anything dubbed by 4Kids(except Yu Gi Oh Ehl Oh Ehl) They just tend to ruin anything they dub beyond recognition. The thing that pisses me off(aside from going out of their way to remove any content that is somewhat violent or onscene in any way) is they're habit of Americanizing anything they dub. Think of it this way; if your name was Naruto in Japan it would probably end up something like Nathan by the time 4Kids finished dubbing your anime -_-

All in all the Dubbing for 00 went incredibly, especially entertaining to me was Setsuna's speech(while fighting) Brad Swaile made it really memorable for me. Plus Gundam 00 was just really good on it's own. I'd say it set's itself apart from all other Gundam series' like Gundam Wing and SEED. Where SEED's action scenes were incredibly flashy(too flashy for my taste) and Wings' was a bit more believable but not quite as satisfying(not talking about Endless Waltz tho.) Gundam 00 to me was a perfect blend of those 2 styles. Well more on that later after i start Season 2
